Hiring Our Heroes

Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) launched in March 2011, and it was only a few months later when the U.S. Chamber of Commerce came to The Markham Group looking for help with their nascent philanthropy organization. HOH makes meaningful career connections between tens of thousands of service members, veterans, and military spouses and employers worldwide. HOH and The Markham Group continue to work together on dozens of events every year and have partnered with multiple federal agencies, state-level agencies in all 50 states, and all branches of the US military.


On-Installation Transition Summits

Each year The Markham Group works with HOH to execute 15+ on-base hiring summits to help bring together transitioning service members with hundreds of employers before they leave the military. These events help educate, motivate and empower service members before turning them loose on employers hungry for veteran talent. In 2016, over 600 employers participated in these events which led to 1,733 on the-spot interviews. Beginning in 2014, the program expanded to include US military installations overseas, and Markham Group has executed 7 of these transition summits in Germany, Italy and Japan.

Hiring Expos

In 2014, HOH began holding the hiring expos in conjunction with professional sporting events or larger veteran centric-events. We have produced hiring events with over 20 professional sports franchises from all major sports leagues, including the NBA, MLB and NFL.

Industry-Specific Events

We create unique opportunities that concentrate on industry-specific careers for our veterans. We have partnered with industry leaders like Alcoa to bring employers from the manufacturing industry to these events.

Two-Day Hiring Events

The most popular events we hold are our two-day hiring events designed for military spouses. These event include a networking reception, employment workshops, and a hiring fair. Sixteen companies sit on our Military Spouse Employment Advisory Council. Our digital resume tool, Career Spark, sponsored by Toyota and Blue Star Families is a key component to these events.


Over the last six years HOH has held more than 1000 events, connected more than 500,000 veterans with more than 30,000 employers across the country and maintained an industry-best 13 percent hiring rate at events.
